This contest was the forerunner of the South Coast Contest and back then, was only open to teams. They named the club after the Shore Inn, the place they spent most their time when they weren't surfing. The Shore Inn is still situated at the beach end of Shore Road in East Wittering, West Sussex. The original team members were Derek Adlam, Brian Butler, Ian Wood, Keith West, Terry Cole, Brian Price, Keith Kingham and Brian James (who is now club treasurer) and they took on the holders - "The Wessex Surf Club" and came very close to winning their first contest.
Since 1969, club members have travelled all over the world surfing, with many living in different parts of England and abroad. The club offers judging and coaching courses through the B.S.A with which it is affiliated.
We still enter teams and individuals in contests and we have two members - a father and son - competing in national longboard competitions. The club meets in the club room of the Shore Inn at 8 o'clock on the first Saturday of every month. We have film shows, live music and and other social functions throughout the year. We offer:
